Labor Day weekend - New Orleans

We arrived late Friday night and went straight to bed. Saturday morning looked somewhat promising, but the rain started at breakfast- luckily our bed and breakfast, The Canal Street Inn, let us borrow some umbrellas. Parking here is insane, so we decided to walk to the French quarter to see what all the fuss was about. The rain started escalating, and pretty soon, we were in a full torrential downpour; time to seek refuge at the Family Dollar. Now suited up in ponchos, we continued our adventure through the flooded streets of the city. If it rains for five minutes. it floods. Next time, we'll bring rain boots.

The rain paused for a good three minutes while at the St. Louis Cemetery #2, just long enough to snap a few shots of the interesting dilapidated architecture. This was a main focus on the trip, but due to the rain and odd cemetery hours, it was pretty difficult to see all we had hoped to. Visiting hours were Tuesday-Saturday 9am-2:30pm.

Made it to Bourbon Street after a while, and found Killer Po Boys. We had the pork belly and grilled shrimp with slaw po boys. They were quite good!

We decided to drive to LA and quickly discovered that the streets are not your best friend. The layout of the city made it easy to get around, but as the locals say: It's easy to pick out drunk drivers here- the sober drivers swerve all over to avoid bumps and potholes while the drunks just drive straight through it all.

Being warmer than Dallas, the city did have a lot of neat plants, including these banana trees surrounding the sidewalk.
